The Basics

Wondering how to keep your skin looking fresh while WFH during this time of quarantine? I got you covered – here to give you all the essentials you need to stay looking and feeling your absolute best!

Vitamin C

I’m sure most of you have either heard of this or have seen it in some beauty products but this is one of the products I cannot live without. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is known for increasing skin’s collagen, reducing fine lines, and giving your skin that extra hydration it needs – especially with this increased screen time! Make sure when purchasing that you find one in a dark bottle (like the Maelove one above) as Vitamin C oxidizes when exposed to sunlight therefore decreasing its potency!

Retinol

For those of you who are wondering, I am 22 years old and yes, I swear by the power of retinol! This is the perfect active ingredient to implement to your regimen during #wfh. Retinol is another antioxidant that fights free radicals that contribute to signs of aging! Retinol, a topical form of vitamin A, is a product that can increase cell turnover which improves skin texture and fine lines. You may experience some flakiness after initial use, albeit we are home anyway! You may need to acclimate your skin to the retinol with a regimen of every 3 days and work your way to everyday use. And the best part? All you need is a pea sized amount to use all over the face and you’re good to go!

Glycolic Acid

If you ever wondered about the power of acids, then look no further. I know the word acid can be scary, but I am here to assure you this is one product you should have at home, not only during your monthly chemical peel or facial. Whether it be glycolic pads or an exfoliation scrub, glycolic acid not only removes dead skin cells preventing blemishes, but also improves fine lines and skin texture. The exfoliant property of this acid is known as an alpha hydroxy acid, also known as an AHA. AHA’s are known to promote blood flow to skin, treat and prevent acne, and brighten skin. Head on over to my instagram highlight on exfoliation where I break down the difference between an AHA and BHA!

SPF

You may be a little confused why I suggest an SPF especially if you spend most of your day sitting at your desk indoors. For the longest time, I too wondered what the benefits of SPF were and when it was deemed necessary. Now, I don’t go a day without it. Why? Most people don’t know that there are different types of UV rays, UVA and UVB. UVB rays are responsible for the sunburn you get after a day at the beach. But, the silent rays, UVA, can penetrate through window glass and contribute to aging and decreased collagen production. So although you may not physically see a difference, your skin will thank you in years to come.

There are so many products created every day in the cosmetic industry and it’s important to know how effective they are before you buy. The days of trial and error at the local pharmacy are over. These essential medical grade skin products provide active ingredients for visible results. After all, you deserve it, glow getter!
